As yearling sale season fast approaches the latest catalogue to be released online is that for Tattersalls October Book 1 which is scheduled to run Oct 6-8. The Newmarket auctioneers’ flagship sale is packed full of quality with 18 yearlings by Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) among the 513 lots, all of which are eligible for the new £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus. Commenting on the release Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “The next chapter of the Frankel legend is set to begin and we are delighted to have 18 outstanding yearlings from his first crop in Europe’s premier yearling sale. They are an impressive bunch both physically and on pedigree with 15 of them either out of Group and Listed winning mares or half brothers or sisters to Group and Listed winners.”

The sale has been a proven source of Classic winners, this year’s G1 1000 Guineas winner Legatissimo (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) being a recent example and established sires of Classic winners are well represented in this year’s edition. Half brothers Galileo (Ire) (Sadlers’ Wells) and Sea The Stars (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) have 23 and 20 yearlings catalogued respectively. The Galileo stock include own or half siblings to Group 1/Classic winners such as Harbinger (GB) (Dansili {GB}) (lot 377), Was (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 43), Elusive Wave (Ire) (lot 346) and Wrote (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) (lot 157). Numerically the sire with the most offspring in the sale is regular Group 1 producer Invincible Spirit (Ire) (Green Desert) who has 26 yearlings catalogued. Its not just UK or Irish stallions that feature heavily, internationally renowned sires such as Distorted Humor (Forty Niner), War Front (Danzig), Kitten’s Joy (El Prado {Ire}), Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), Elusive Quality (Gone West) and Scat Daddy (Johannesburg) are all represented. Overall the 3 day sale contains either own or full siblings to 37 Group 1 and Classic winners and 248 Group/Listed winners. On the damside, some recent Group 1 winners are represented by their first progeny. 2012 G1 1000 Guineas winner Homecoming Queen (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor [Ire}) has a Galileo filly as lot 234 while another Group 1 winner in the same year Izzi Top (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) has an Oasis Dream (GB) (Green Desert) colt listed as lot 254.

The new Book 1 Bonus should also help trade at all levels. Each lot purchased is in line for a £25,000 bonus should they land a 2yo maiden in UK/Ireland in 2016 and of this new scheme Edmond Mahony commented, “The response to the new ‘Book 1 Bonus’ has been fantastic and for owners to have the prospect of earning prize money of £30,000 or more for winning any of around 300 British and Irish 2-year-old maidens is hugely enticing. Europe’s premier yearling sale has all the ingredients to attract buyers at all levels of the market and we look forward to them being handsomely rewarded with unprecedented prize money.”
